This page lists a range of sources of possible funding, some of which are available to students in all humanities faculties, and some of which are faculty specific.

Cross-faculty Funding

Clarendon Scholarship

If you apply for a full- or part-time master's or DPhil course at Oxford by the January deadline for your course, you will automatically be considered for a Clarendon Scholarship. Clarendon offers fully-funded scholarships covering course fees, as well as a grant for living expenses for the period of fee liability.

Open-Oxford-Cambridge DTP (AHRC)

The AHRC is the UK's largest organisation for funding research on social and economic issues. The University, in collaboration with Cambridge University and the Open University, hosts the Open-Oxford-Cambridge AHRC Doctoral Training Partnership (OOC DTP).

The Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme

Applications to the Mica and Ahmet Ertegun Graduate Scholarship Programme may be made by those in a wide range of fields in the Humanities (including Classics, Asian and Middle Eastern Studies, Philosophy, and Theology and Religion).

Resources

Scholarships covering fees, living expenses, or fees plus living expenses, are available to outstanding graduate applicants subject to eligibility.

Deadline: To be considered for funding, candidates applying to start a course from October must have submitted their University application(s) for the course(s) for which they wish to be considered by the relevant January deadline.

Faculty-specific Funding

The Philosophy Faculty will offer up to three fully-funded scholarships for students who will start the full-time DPhil in Philosophy in October 2023. The scholarship will cover university fees, irrespective of fee status, as well as a grant for living expenses, for the duration of fee liability. There is no separate application process for this scholarship. The Faculty of Philosophy will automatically consider all eligible offer holders for the DPhil in Philosophy for this funding.

Philosophy Funding

The Faculty of Asian and Middle Eastern Studies has a number of scholarship and funding opportunities across a wide range of subjects. Click here for a list of the opportunities that are currently known to the Faculty and which may be available in the current admissions cycle. It is possible that further scholarships may become available at a later point.

Asian and Middle Eastern Studies Funding

Several funding sources are available to students of the Faculty of Theology and Religion. Funded from a variety of sources including Trust Funds, grants from philanthropic organisations and other benefactors, these awards will partly or wholly cover fees and/or a maintenance stipend.

Theology and Religion Funding

Since 2014 the Faculty has made funding opportunities for the most talented students its principal development objective, and has collected many generous donations (above all from its own alumni) in its Power of Seven Fund. This is used to match funding available from colleges and other external donors to make complete awards at both Masters and Doctoral level.
